Frederick Aaron “Fred” Savage is a famous American Actor, producer and director, best known for portraying the character of Kevin Arnold on the hit American television show ‘The Wonder Years’, a show that lasted for six seasons, and ran from 1988 to 1995. Savage earned nation wide acclaim for his work on the show and was felicitated with the Young Artist Awards and ‘People’s Choice Awards.

 

Active on the scene since 1985, Savage’s first roles were on the film ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’ and ‘Dinosaurs! – A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time!’, until he was chosen to play Kevin Arnold on ‘The Wonder Years’. Some of his most popular works include ‘The Princess Bride’ in 1987, ‘The Wizard’ in 1989, ‘Oswald’ from 2001-2003.

 

Early Life and Education

Savage was born on 9 July 1976 to Joanne and Lewis Savage in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Glencoe, Illinois, but the family later moved to California. He has two siblings, a younger brother, Ben Savage, also an actor and a younger sister, Kala Savage, an actress and musician. Savage was raised as a Reform Jewish and has Polish, Ukrainian, German and Latvian ancestry.

Savage attended and graduated from a private co-education school named Brentwood School near Los Angeles County, California. He later attended the Stanford University from where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1999. At Stanford, Savage was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

 

Career Rise

Savage appeared on the comedy film ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’ in 1986, in which he essayed an autistic boy, Louis Michaelson, and received a ‘Young Artist Award’. In the same year, he made his television debut with the show ‘The Twilight Zone’, appearing on just one episode. He appeared in a lead role in the 1987 films ‘Dinosaurs! – A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time!’ and ‘The Princess Bride’ and received his second ‘Young Artist Award for his role in the latter.

Savage received nation-wide recognition for portraying ‘Kevin Arnold’ on the ABC comedy series ‘The Wonder Years’, which was named one of the most successful shows of it time. While the show itself won several awards including a Prime Time Emmy, Savage received 3 individual awards including a ‘People’s Choice Award’ and a ‘Young Artist Award’ and two individual nominations at the Golden Globes and the Emmys. His other significant works include  films like 1998’s ‘Vice Versa’, 1989’s ‘The Wizard’ and television shows like ‘Working’, ‘Oswald’, ‘Generator Rex’, and the recent ‘The Grinder’ where he played Rob Lowe’s brother.

Savage is also a successful producer and director having directed the film ‘Daddy Day Camp’ and various episodes on television shows ‘Modern Family’, ‘Two Broke Girls’, ‘It’s Always sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Best friends Forever’ and ‘Garfunkel and Oats’ among others.

He acted in TV shows like Crumbs and The Grinder. He was also a part of the Netflix series, Friends from College’ in 2019.

Savage met his future wife, Jennifer Lynn Stone while they were growing up in Chicago. Savage lost touch with her since he moved to California, but the couple reconnected at his 22nd birthday party and soon began dating. They tied the knot at the L’Orangerie Restaurant in Los Angeless in August 2004.

Together they have three children. Their first child is a son named Oliver Phil Savage born in August 2006. They welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lily in 2008. In 2012, the couple became parents for a third time to a son named Auggie.
