Richard Marx is a famous American pop/rock and contemporary singer, lyricist, musician and record producer, who has had a career in the industry for almost 4 decades in which he has sold more than 30 million records. He is a pop icon of the late 1980s and 1990s in which he delivered a series of hit singles and was named the first ever solo artist to have seven hit singles in the list of the Top 5 Billboard Hot singles chart.

 

Some of Marx most popular single numbers include “Endless Summer Nights”, “Now and Forever”, “Right Here Waiting”, “Hazard” and the duet “At the Beginning” collaborated with Donna Lewis. He has produced both classic rock style music as well as ballads with the former being more popular. Apart from his own music, Marx has collaborated with other artists too and given successful hits such as “Dance With My Father” with Luther Vandross and “This I Promise You” with NSYNC. Early Life and Education

Marx was born on 16 September, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois to Ruth Guildoo and Dick Marx. Both his parents were musically inclined with his mother being a former singer and his father, a jazz musician and also owned a successful jingle company. The only child of his parents, Marx has three half-siblings a previous marriage of his father’s.

Marx started singing for his father’s jingles when he was five. He received his education at the North Shore Country Day School, Illinois. When he was 17, one of his tapes ended up in the hands of singer Lionel Ritchie who encouraged him to move to Los Angeles and gave him a break as a backing vocal artist in his albums.

 

Career Rise

Marx released his debut album titled ‘Richard Marx’ in 1987 and four of its singles, “Don’t Mean Nothing”, “Endless Summer Nights”, “Hold On to the Nights” and “Should’ve Known Better” became chart toppers. In 1989, he released his second album ‘Repeat Offender’, which also produced three hit singles, and gave Marx the distinction of becoming the first ever artist to have 7 back-to-back hit singles. His 1991 album ‘Rush Street’ produced the immensely hit number “Hazard”, which became a world-wide chart topper. ‘Rush Street’ is also known as one of his best works.

Marx’s next few albums were ‘Paid Vacation’, ‘Flesh & Bone’, ‘Days in Avalon’ and ‘My Best Enemy’, all of which proved to be huge successes, catapulting his career to even higher heights. Most of Marx’s work post 2004 involved hit musical collaborations, tribute songs and Ballads. Albums such as ‘Emotional Remains’, ‘Sundown’, ‘Stories To tell’, ‘The Christmas EP’ and ‘Christmas Series’ by Marx were released. Marx today, is known for his collaborative albums with artists like NSYNC and Luther Vandross.

Marx has been married twice. Marx’s first marriage was with Cynthia Rhodes, a popular singer and actress known for songs like “Staying Alive” and “Flashdance” in 1983″, and also the incredibly popular “Dirty Dancing”. Rhodes also featured as the female lead in the very first music video produced by Marx, “Don’t mean nothing” Marx married Rhodes on 8 January 1989, and the union produced three children, sons Brandon, Lucas and Jesse. The couple officially divorced in April 2014, after 25 years of marriage.

In December 2015, Marx announced on his Facebook page that he had married American television host and model Daisy Fuentes in the city of Aspen, Colorado.

 

Limitless was the twelfth studio album  by Richard Marx, released on February 7, 2020. The album has been dedicated to his wife Daisy Luentes.
